New Treatments - Topical Calcineurin Inhibitors
What you need to know about new treatments and managing conventional therapies.
The recent introduction of a new treatment for moderate to severe eczema has been proven to overcome some of the potential limitations of conventional therapies. Steroid-free, topical calcineurin inhibitors are a new class of medication that appears to target the root cause of eczema.
These therapies are applied directly to all affected areas of the skin including the face, neck and eyelids, and work very quickly, often within a few days, to reduce eczema symptoms. See your dermatologist or family physician for more information.
Cautions:
Some patients have reported a mild to moderate burning sensation on the skin after the ointment is applied. Discomfort is usually short-lived and is limited to the area of application. As with any prescription medication, follow a doctor's advice and use only as directed.
