Massage: not just for grown-ups!
Help your child start the school year on the right foot, reducing stress and discomfort due to eczema flare-ups
Did you know that giving your child a massage — and spending some quality time together — could actually improve their eczema? A daily 20-minute massage, for one month, may help relieve your child’s eczema symptoms and reduce their stress levels. In fact, this exercise can also do wonders for managing your own stress!
According to researchers at the University of Miami, Florida, massage is beneficial for children who suffer from eczema. A study in Dermatologic Clinics showed that stress and the symptoms of eczema decreased in intensity thanks to massage. A daily 20-minute massage over a period of one month may help the child relax. Their anxiety may decrease from the very first session, with the effects lasting throughout the entire treatment period.
Massage may have a positive impact on the child’s emotional state because of the reduced stress. You may also notice a major improvement in their eczema symptoms, such as redness, small blisters, scales and itching.
Studies have also shown that this daily activity decreased parents’ stress levels. Talk to your child’s doctor to find out if massage could be a helpful addition to their current treatment plan.
